Captain Kirk Returns - by Max Carroll
Al Kirk is remembered by those who knew him at New Plymouth Boys’ High School, as an enthusiastic, energetic, and charismatic teacher.

He came to us in 1988 to take up the position of Senior Master, and left us in 1995 as an Assistant Principal, to become the Deputy Principal of Nelson College. He later became Principal of Whangarei Boys’ High School, and now although supposedly retired, he is still actively involved in education in the far North.

While he was at New Plymouth Boys’ High School he stamped his mark on many aspects of school life. When it was known that Al and his wife Sue were in New Plymouth for a few days during the October school holiday, a few of his colleagues of old, joined them for a very pleasant, and at times quite hilarious, hour or so at the Shining Peak Brewery.

While there, it was noted that like Al, the group contained three other former Housemasters of Carrington: Max, Terry and Hugh.
